Setting up Video Portal

HI,

I have few suggestions and perhaps feature suggestion.

1) How do I go about setting up a video portal. i have gone through the pre packaged installation of vivosocial 7.4 and through the IndexItem manual. i am wanting to set up a video portal where users can upload their videos and have a look at other ppls uploaded videos too. As far as I understand the main modules involved are IndexItem and search directory modules with some templates. IndexItem would be used to enter data and SearchDirectory to display the list of videos.

  • Now how do I display the actual video (Detail View)? what modules or templates do I need to use
  • Should I have a separate page with indexItem on it where users go to upload new videos? then this will also be the place where they can edit or delete the video right? after delete the user still stay on the same page with few fields like categories pre filled. thats a bit confusing for the end user. he doesnt get any proper indication of action taken or redirection etc.
  • Can you let us know what are the folder the templates reside in and what happens when we customise current template from front end. in which folder does the template actually change? coz I could see some folders under Portals with wiered numbered folder names that had html template files.

2) Feature: tokens, social sharing of videos. are there any tokens to list the owners other videos and related videos. that would be quite cool to make it youtube like. the related videos could be worked out based on the keywords entered.

thanks

1) Search Directory is used for the list view. Index Item is used for the details page and submitting/editing content. You would put each on a separate page and use the default templates. There is a setting in Search Directory that controls the type of content to be displayed - audio, video, news, ect... In this case, you would select only video.

Those "wiered numbered folder names" are the actual instances of the module on a page somewhere. If you need to figure out what number an instance is, go to the "change template" page for the module and look at the URL. In the URL there will be a number after the module's name, that is the "instance number" that will correspond to the numbered folder you see in the file manager.

2) There are no tokens for this. However, related items works off of the Keywords. For example, if two items have at least one keyword that is identical, then those items will display on each other's related items section.

Is category navigation or a default category selected in Search Directory?

The URL field is for entering a URL to an item. If this field is populated, when you click on the item's title on the detail page, it redirects to that URL.

The media fields are for display only, they don't really "do" anything. The info they provide can be handy if doing a file sharing site.

Category navigation is not selected. default category is selected in search directory. but the video uploaded from Index Item is in same category. The issues im having is summarised again

1) when Superuser visits the index page he can see Menu Items "Home", "My Items" and "add new item" but when admin visits the same page he sees nothing except a gray line. is it some sort of layout issue? what layout in the default template is it using at this point?

2) When superuser uploads a video he can see it under My Items and it appears under search directory for all Users. but when clicked on the item to vide the video in details view(Index Item instance), only the superuser can view the video alright. all other user just see a gray line including the admin user.

3) when superuser uploadas a video from an external resource liek youtube, superuser can see the item only under My Items (Index item Instance). it doesnt get populated in any search directory and no users can view it including superuser. I think there is an issue recognising an external resource as a video or audi etc.

For the details view of Index Item, what layout is used. I find 2 layouts called "Details" and "Media View". The template is VII_Default.

Thanks,
