There is a module setting in IndexItem to allow multiple uploads. Enabling it will allow you to select multiple files. This is esentially the same thing as adding "Media" to an IndexItem. It will allow yout o create folders and browse/download media.

You can configure IndexItem and SearchDirectory to be used for Groups and Events. See the example in VivoSocial for Events. For IndexItem you will want to enable groups and in SearchDirectory you will need to set to Groups Only.
